Friends Center for Children – Presentation Boards

Posted on December 4, 2013 by Karin • Filed under: ,

These are our presentation boards, prepared for the Friends Center for Children.

The site is shared with the Quaker Meeting House. The building is located so as to give each classroom access to their playground directly behind the building, facing city parklands.

The main volume is low to the ground, to minimize the visual impact of the Center from view of the Quaker Meeting House. The two-story volume houses the larger classrooms and staffroom, along with a roof garden on the South side, for hands-on learning about plants and the natural environment.

The interior spaces are organized along an active hallway which splays toward a large window with views to the trees and pond beyond.

The rendering of the Center shows abundant windows in the cedar-clad exterior walls, the standing-seam high-reflectance roofs and in the distance, the ramp walk that takes children and visitors through the forest to the 2nd floor and to the playgrounds.

This early interior rendering shows the active hallway with a reading area at the West end, in front of the large window overlooking trees and a seasonal pond.
