The owners of Zinc approached Karin about re-designing their sister restaurant located on Temple Street Plaza in downtown New Haven, CT. This historic space, originally a fur vault, is built of brick and concrete. A new menu concept, different seating arrangements and a new enlarged bar required a new design. This was a collaborative design with Heather Bensko.

The design is respectful of the original architectural features, including exposed brick walls, an iron column, and gilded carved cornice. A new bar and suspended blown-glass fixtures re-energize the space, while the new neutral color scheme changes the atmosphere to one of sophisticated yet casual dining. The new name, Kitchen Zinc, ties it directly to the original restaurant. The new menu of artisan pizza and other delectables, made with local, farm-to-table ingredients, is drawn on a large chalkboard over the pass-through to the kitchen. Photograph prints of farm and market wares are suspended in the original niches.
